[ale] ASUS P5MT question

Thanks! I've checked those settings and have disabled them. There was no Serial-ATA Boot ROM. I disabled the 3ware boot BIOS and the Onboard LAN Boot ROM. I found I was still getting the boot failure so took out the RAID card. I still have this problem. So, I am going back to square one and making sure cables are okay and that I can get a single SATA or PATA drive to work. I am amazed at how much trouble I've had trying to put all this hardware together and get it to work! Usually stuff just works.
I think lack of knowledge on my part thru inexperience with 3ware RAID cards and server motherboards in general caused the most problems. I was also doing this on a budget and have found thru reading listservs that the few low end server motherboards that were in my price range have hardware compatibility problems. I guess the biggest problem is the BIOS is picky about hardware. I might have installation problems with SUSE 10.1 that I'm not aware of. Maybe Grub didn't get installed properly and is compounding the problem.
What is the story on ICH7R chipset support since this motherboard has that? From what I've found it isn't supported well except should work in a legacy mode. That is what I thought I was setting in the BIOS. It probably will turn out to not be the BIOS but a bad cable or hard drive or failed Grub install. Something I'm not expecting!!
Thanks,
Dow
