Thanks. Following your lead I found 'Login Manager' under the 'Control
Center' and reset my system's login defaults. I don't know how the default
became set, but it looks like a poor setting, at least for a portable [i.e.,
lose-able] system.

Use the kdm configuration tool and set it to not automatically log in
a user (you). I believe you can do it through YaST. The only time I
use SuSE is on my Grandfather's machine so I can't tell you exactly
where to look.
