[ale] problems with an Intel dual gig-e nic

for eth0, EEPROM data seems to be corrupt. You may need to re-flash the
EEPROM with diag/flash util from Intel's site. The driver version you have
is a bit old too. RHEL 4 shipped with 5.6.10.1-k2-NAPI.
If you have RHEL 4 or 4.1 handy, boot into rescue mode (linux rescue) and
say yes when prompted whether you want to turn on networking.
