Cor,
Additional info on ptal:
Under suse90 I have these processes running upon finishing bootup and
running ps auwx | grep ptal (watch out for line wrap here):
ptal-mlcd mlc:usb:officejet_d_series -devidmatch MDL:officejet d series;
-devidmatch SN:SG21A210Y0RS; -device /dev/usb/lp0 /dev/usb/lp1
/dev/usb/lp2 /dev/usb/lp3 /dev/usb/lp4 /dev/usb/lp5 /dev/usb/lp6
/dev/usb/lp7
ptal-printd mlc:usb:officejet_d_series -morepipes 9 -like /dev/lp0
/sbin/startpar -f -- /etc/init.d/rc5.d/S13ptal
I also have these commands available in /usr/sbin to play with:
dhurst at sword:~> ls -l /usr/sbin/ptal*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 5083 2003-09-23 19:01
/usr/sbin/ptal-cups
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 33936 2003-09-23 19:01
/usr/sbin/ptal-init
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 188981 2003-09-23 19:02
/usr/sbin/ptal-mlcd
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 21318 2003-09-23 19:02
/usr/sbin/ptal-photod
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 16471 2003-09-23 19:02
/usr/sbin/ptal-printd
A whole set of documentation is under:
/usr/share/doc/packages/hp-officeJet/
so maybe this will help you figure it out!
