Actually, very simple but not cheap. "Clamp on" amp meter is what
electricians call them. Look for used or possibly an import.... Also has to
be around only one wire, so a short heavy extension cord that can be safely
split into separate (but still insulated!) wires comes in handy. They can
also be used in the breaker box if you know which breaker and nothing else
on that circuit is running.
