Nothing local has great prices on 1U. GIM near Tech used to stock rack
mount gear a while back. Not sure if they still do.
If you're not needing speed demon machines, there are numerous dealers
on ebay that sell rack servers used from off lease setup (and failed
business, etc). I've seen 1U, 2U and 4U systems going for as little as
$150 each. The downside is many of these dealers sell in multiple box
lots. Like 10 at a time. Or 30. One guy was selling 2U Dells by the
pallet load.
If you don't want to have the "buy it, own it, now find a place to park
it" process and have a bit deeper pockets, serverbeach has been great
for one of my clients now for about a year.
