[ale] help with lib

I get "bash: ldconfig: command not found"
If I browse an dlook though I see
Usr/lib/libcurses.so.1.0.0
and
Usr/lib/libcurses.so.1
Usr/lib/curses/libcurses.a
Usr/lib/curses/libcurses.so

Does /usr/lib/libncurses.a exist?
I think this is what it's looking for.
What does the following return:
ldconfig -v |grep libncurses
