Job Description:
SAIC is seeking a Configuration Engineer, with experience supporting the
integration, development, and implementation of software development
projects.
The primary purpose of this role is to provide support, control,
maintenance, and management of the software development lifecycle and
associated environment(s).
This position will be responsible for supporting and ensuring the
consistent and repeatable deployment of software builds to the
Development, Test and Production environments by performing technical
activities. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to
ensuring software development quality and stability through careful
build and packaging controls; helping project team members identify
appropriate configuration management measures and performing appropriate
analysis; performing configuration audits, maintaining the overall
development, test and configuration management environments/systems.
The Configuration Engineer will provide support for source code control,
integrity of artifacts, development workspace management and change
management; will work with team members and management to define and
maintain the configuration management process. Technical activities
will include but are not limited to the following:
* Branching, Merging, Tagging and other activities related to
version control and code repository management
* Monitoring and ensuring software development standards and
processes are followed.
* Installing and configuring servers, workstations, networking
components, and other devices as needed to support overall
software development operations.
* Developing and modifying scripts for automated build processes.
* Investigating questionable issues and initiating corrective
actions.
* Installing operating systems and software on servers and
workstations
* Implementing processes and procedures to improve overall
software development efficiencies and quality.
* Troubleshooting and resolving networking issues and providing
recommended solutions where applicable
Required Skills:
6+ years overall related experience. Experience with (one or more of
the the following) Source Code Repository products such as (SVN, Source
Safe, ClearCase, PVCS). Familiarity with Continuous Integration
Practices and Agile development methodologies (extreme programming,
scrum, etc ). Overall knowledge of software development concepts and
processes. Software implementation, computer installation, and
integration skills. Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
(both technical and non-technical). Proficient with MS Office suite.
Experience in reporting status to various levels of the organization.
Proven ability to automate processes with appropriate tools (both
in-house, commercial, and open source tools).
Computer Skills considered a Plus:
VM Ware
Perl Script (or other scripting languages)
Windows Server
MS SQL Server Installation and Configuration
Network Protocols and Operations
TCP/IP
J2EE Application Servers
Web Logic
ANT (Another Neat Tool)
Desired Skills:
Experience in small and/or large scale software development projects
where cross-team coordination is required.
Education:
Two-year degree or equivalent experience. Major field of study in
Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or related field is preferred.
