I have used Data Rescue with pretty good results on a Mac.  It cost 
$100.

Drive savers (800-440-1904) is a company that specializes in recovering 
anything.  They will make $100 for DataRescue software and $500 for a 
new Mac mini seem like a viable option though.  But if is important 
enough.
