[ale] kppp & smartlink soft modem

Is anyone using kppp with smartlink soft modem for a winmodem? If so 
what are the  configuration settings for the modem? I'm having trouble 
getting kppp to work. When I configure a new modem in kppp I can query 
the modem ( or at least smartlink) but when I dial kppp hangs and 
requires a kill -9 to terminate the process. I've updated smartlink via 
yast2 to the most current for SuSE 9.2. The kde is 3.3.3.

wvidal works fine with the modem and smartlink.
