[ale] Its over. Maybe

I don't think it has anything to do with who won the election. I think
it has everything to do with the fact that simple little things weren't
done, and it seems that the only seemingly logical reason they weren't
done, is so that somebody could play around with the election.

A Bush-supporting talking head said it best on CNN on Monday, when he
tried to defend the new electronic systems. His quote was something
like, "These systems are based on the same technology that powers our
international banking system, without a fault." Well, the last time I
went to the ATM, I put my card in, and I got a receipt, money and a card
out. All that for a measly $20 for junk I don't need. On top of that,
I get a statement every month.

On the other hand, I put my card in the voting system on Tuesday, and
all I got back was the card and a little sticker. I have absolutely no
idea what was on the card. For all I know, I could have voted for
Mickey Mouse. Do I really think that the card had anything different to
what I selected: no. But I also can't figure out why they couldn't just
print out a receipt. It can't be that hard to come up with a unique
number you can put on it. Your banking system, which this is all
supposedly based on, does it all the time. It's the check and balance
that has worked to perfection in the banking system,

It's rather frightening when such a simple step, which could easily
quell a lot of fears and almost all the (legitimate) Candidate X stole
the election BS, isn't done. It really does make you wonder about the
real intent of the parties involved.

As has been said repeatedly before, this issue affects everybody,
Republicans, Democrats, and even the 6 Nader supporters.
