Walter,
I've experience the same type behavior under SuSE 8.1, 8.2, and 9.0 depending
on the hardware the install was on. Three different cases of hardware. I
would see typing delays or random hangs in the shell. Delays that were
inexplicable in Mozilla while typing. I now wonder if there were SuSEplugger
problems or a lower level USB or sound card module problem. I never got to
the bottom of it. Rebooting fixed it temporarily, and relogging into KDE
would fix it temporarily on some hardware. I never increased kernel or module
logging so never got more info out of the system. I am sure that picking the
right hardware is a major part of having a happy system for those who aren't
Linux gurus. I can only get so far before I run out of guruness or time. My
guruness is limited.
