I think the LaCie drives are well supported by K3b which uses the dvd burning
tools from Andy Polyakov, AFAIK. We use a internal 4x DVD+/-RW IDE drive on a
PII 350MHz machine running SuSE 9.0 with great success. I have an external 2x
-R/RW/RAM LaCie firewire burner that I need to have K3b driving. It is on a
RH9 system and I haven't tested K3b on it. I'd hate to have to deal with XP
or MS products for DVD burning. K3b also doesn't require root access to burn
a DVD.
