with OpenOffice 1.1 you can open the file and export to PDF.  It
wouldn't help if you were looking for some sort of bulk utility, though.

Hi,

I'm looking for a Linux utility that can convert Microsoft Word and
Excel documents into PDF. The user does not want to print the info to a
postscript file and then convert it.
