Typically you would install both, and just switch between them.  If you log in 
with gdm or kdm (graphical login) there is probably a menu option to choose 
which to boot.  If you login in text mode, then run startx, the redhat way 
(and Mandrake, I think) is to run switchdesk.  Try typing "switchdesk" and 
see what happens.
