Because I'm a first-time newbie installer and have no idea what's
going on. (What, me read the installation guide?)

Among other things, I'm evaluating distros for installation on a
friend's machine. He is not very technical, and has only dialup
access. Therefore, being able to install whatever's needed from the
CD's, and preferably just once during the initial install, is a good
thing. It looks as if Debian is not going to work for him.
However, I have been playing with apt-get for a little while today,
and it *is* very nice. I'll continue to play with my newly-installed
Debian box, and I may decide to swich the various RH and Slack boxen
over.
