[ale] Removing duplicate files

I know I can whip up a tool for this in a few minutes, but I wonder if there 
is one, or if there is a known pattern.

I would like to examine a directory of files.  Some of these files will be 
exactly the same - I'd like to have keep only one such copy and remove all 
others that look like it.  Preferablly I'd like to keep the oldest.
