[ale] syncing a palm via serial/usb device?

Anything in your /var/log/messages or dmesg?  My handspring actually
used /dev/ttyUSB1 while my old Palm3 used /dev/ttyUSB0.  Try hitting the
hotsync button and running "lsusb".  This is from the usbutils package
on debian.
