[ale] ssh for automated management

One university used Kerberos instead of ssh since the key management was too much headache on a large scale. Article was in Sysadmin Mag several years ago. Maybe a load balancing algorithm should be put in to the mix to help with timing and load of connections. Is this a push or pull situation? A pull combined with a randomizing clock function might work better.

Subject: [ale] ssh for automated management
We are considering using ssh as part of a solution for automated remote
managment of 10000+ node network, distributed at over 500 sites. The nodes
being managed are NOT "standard desktop machines" (in terms of software
etc.), but more like "appliances".
Ideally all the management would be done from one machine.
Anyone want to suggest any likely problems we might encounter, scale-wize?
Thanks
David
