He's probably talking about plain-old 802.11 (note, no letter)
It's been around for quite a while - long before anyone came up with the
wi-fi lingo.
I've got a couple of 900MHz ISA cards from that era.. never got them to
do much other than talk across a room.

So I'm talking to this guy yesterday and he tells me there's this
wireless technology out there that can be used for networking and he
refers to it as 'wireless lan.' Says it's not wifi and actually has
been around longer than wifi. Can't be bluetooth. So folks, anyone
know what this magical, mysterious technology is?
