Check your mime.types and mime.convs files and make sure you have raw
printer support enabled. On my system, these files are in /etc/cups.
In mime.types, look for this section:

# Uncomment the following type and the application/octet-stream
# filter line in mime.convs to allow raw file printing without the
# -oraw option.

application/octet-stream

And in mime.convs:
