If that's not it, perhaps you could also include the command from make
that caused the error or at least the laast few lines of make output.

I'm not familiar with gkrellm or mandrake or suse, but with more info I or
someone else might be able to help.

How are you running of the CD and compiling software? Did you mount a hard
drive or something, or is this a ram disk? Info about how you did that
might be helpful too -- as Geoffrey pointed out you might need to install
additional packages. Of course, the answer to that may be obvious to
someone who's done this before, which I have not.
