I've long preferred the capture card/camera combo over usb cams. They
are rock solid and can be had for around $40 total. My personal
experience with usb cameras both on Linux and Windows is they are slow,
very slow. My wintv card and mustek camera produce tv like movement
reproduction. I've got a b/w philips cam attached to my garage so I
might monitor arrivals.
I've got a quickcam which worked out of the box on SuSE 8.2. As a
matter of fact, I'd forgotten it was even plugged in when I did the
upgrade. When I started the script for my wintv card, I got the view
from the quickcam, thus I had to modify my script.

The latest, most widespread virus? Microsoft end user agreement.
Think about it...
