That was what I was thinking as well. I attempted an installation onto a
fresh Slackware 9.1 and ran into build errors for some of the tools. The
big hassle was the loss of the principle admin tool and its gui. I will
databases all day long for postgresql and Mysql, but Oracle is a
rip-snorting PIA to do from the command line.
I will be tinkering with this over the next day or so. I suspect the
culprit is a lib that RedHat patched that Slackware uses raw from the
developer.
I've been having a love/hate relationship with RedHat for a while now
(since 8.0). There are so many things that "just work" and yet there are
so many other things I pull out my hair over.
