[ale] RH9 Logwatch Errors / glibc stuff

Dow,
Sorry for the late response (had to find my notes.) Here's what I did to
recover from the glibc update from hell. I booted from RH disk 1 and typed
'linux rescue' at the installation prompt. I then answered a few
questions about language and network settings and hit 'Continue' when
asked about ols system being mounted to /mnt/sysimage.

I then typed 'mount' to verify that the CD and the old system were indeed
mounted. I then typed the following to force install glibc and
glibc-common to /mnt/sysimage:

rpm -ivh --force --root /mnt/sysimage
/mnt/source/RedHat/RPMS/glibc-2.3.2-11.9.i686.rpm
/mnt/source/RedHat/RPMS/glibc-common-2.3.2-11.9.i386.rpm

(The above is all one line, the editor just broke them out to separate
lines)

I then typed 'chroot /mnt/sysimage' to see if I could get to the 'old
root' without a Seg fault. Type 'exit twice to exit from the shells and
reboot.

I went into specific details above for the newbies on the list. I found
this on linuxquestions.org and yes I did run this to fix my linux box. I
wanted to give salutations when needed.

Hope this helps,

Steve
