yeah, Keith (hope I am right) does have a passion for CAD on Linux.  AutoCAD
seems to be the M$ of the (generalized) CAD world.  They do all the forced
upgrades and standards deviation (of dwg/dxf), not to mention the unique
ability (sarcasm) to _not_ save to an older version of itself past the last
release (hmm, Office?).

unfortunately, there are _many_ "plug-in" type of programs that require
AutoCAD, so moving to something else is generally out of the question (I am
using Eagle Point at the moment and it runs on top of AutoCAD).  

Bentley has had my interest for some time.  Their MicroStation program not
only is good stuff, but they had released a version for educational use that
ran on Linux (I would _love_ to test this).  sadly they don't plan on
releasing a current version of MicroStation for Linux to my knowledge.

AutoCAD has stated that they _will_ not release a Linux based product.  I
think I can dig up the creator's page where he talks about how he uses BSD
and Linux, but doesn't want to jeopardize his wallet by releasing a Linux
version.

sorry for the near rant.  I have been dealing with this for years.
