[ale] Simple command I can't remember

There is a simple command in Linux that make a run level loaded for programs.  You can set
a program to run at some run levels and not other.  I think it even put a script file in
/etc/init.d.  I just can't seem to remember it.
Can't someone tell me what it is. I can't even remember the name right now.
