It's really going to depend on your hardware. Some BIOSes implement 
suspend-to-disk (IBM, for example, I think does this). On my laptop 
(Compaq), swsusp works fairly well. On the Toshiba I tried to set it up on, 
it didn't really work at all. YMMV
