My own observations gained from experience with RH 8.0and 9.0:

The trademark look and feel thing is not limited to the gui. RH has
introduced there own versions of quite a few libraries into gcc. As a
matter of fact, a number of v4l drivers don't work right will 8.0 and
will not even compile with 9.0 (although, in all fairness, changes in
the kernel contribute to about 20 to 30% of the problem in 9.0).

I've been helping with the spca50x driver (V4L driver for sunplus based
webcams and camera's) and every "bug", with the exception of *ONE* that
has been reported in the last 2 or 3 months has been submitted by RH
users. Thing is, these are not so much bugs as lib compatibility
problems that are the result of changes that middle management F**kTards
at RH made to libraries (For no good reason, I might add...)

Best
