Oh, gross.  If you have to use xfig, do yourself a favor and find tgif 
instead.  For some reason it doesn't seem to come on most distributions, 
but it is much more powerful than xfig.  Both of them are a little klunky 
and old fashioned, but xfig especially so.

I'd rather use vector, sodipodi, koffice or openoffice than either of 
those.  None of these are CAD, just vector graphics programs.
