I would expect that you're going to be limited by the length 
restrictions of usb.  Further, my experiencs seem to indicate that usb 
is more cpu intensive then say a capture card and an rca/s-video camera 
solution.  You can put together a color camera that has a 60' rca/din 
cable and a capture card for around $45:

Shop around for the above camera, I've seen it from $30-60.

I've got the IContact Video Telephone device listed below.  All it 
really is, is a bttv 878 capture card with additional software to 
facilitate the phone end of things:
