[ale] Gnome workspace and overlapping windows

Sorry guys.

gconf-editor is available on disk 1 of RH 8, and also available through
apt-rpm if you use that.  You have to opt in for it during initial
install.

Install it.  It gives you a lot of control back over your desktop.
