[ale] Debian help requested - vfat question

I run Debian, and I think the problem here is that it sees any MS-DOS
device or partition as FAT unless explicitly told that it is VFAT.  When
I am moving files on  my Archos Jukebox, for example, if I "mount
/dev/sda4 /mnt/archos" or "mount -t msdos /dev/sda4 /mnt/archos" I can
see only 8.3 filenames. I must  "mount -t vfat /dev/sda4 /mnt/archos" to
see the complete filenames. I'll wager that your GUI is mounting the
floppy as "-t msdos" or as "auto" through /etc/fstab. Alas, I've no clue
how to fix this from anywhere but the command line. If you're _always_
gonna use vfat, you might-could do it in /etc/fstab?
