[ale] emerge sync -vs- emerge-webrsync in Gentoo

Ok, another update. The emerge-webrsync didn't work either (in my situation).
After some digging, I found that I wasn't getting out at all. I didn't have any
network type utilities (ping, route, etc.) in the chrooted version (/mnt/gentoo)
that I was using, so I was going to another virt terminal, which showed that I
was able to resolve, ping, etc. all of the necessary sites. Then, I'd go back
into my chroot'd terminal, and nothing worked. I copied ping into
/mnt/gentoo/bin and tried to ping the address that emerge sync was trying to
connect to and BAM, no dice. cat /etc/resolve.conf showed that I had the right
dns server in there, but I didn't have nslookup (in either place that I could
find). I put a static entry for rsync.gentoo.com in /etc/hosts , fired up
emerge sync, and BAM, there it went.
