[ale] identd + sendmail

The way I understand it, sendmail sends an auth request to clients or
other MTAs that connect to it. It will wait 5 seconds by default for a
reply. You can turn this off in the sendmail config file by setting the
ident wait time to 0. So, I was wondering if there are any mail systems
out there that require a valid auth response or they will reject email
from your MTA. It hasn't happened to me so far. It seems that all the
mail systems will still deliver mail, even if they don't get an auth
response. So it sounds like it's irrelevant.
The weird thing is I set the ident wait time to 0, but my MTA still
sends out an auth request when a client on my LAN pulls email. So,
either sendmail is refusing to turn of ident or maybe the pop3 daemon is
issuing the ident??? I couldn't tell what/why this was happening, but I
guess it isn't a big deal to have ident requests on the LAN.
