The July Central meeting details were confirmed last week. Notice went out 
yesterday afternoon and should show up on the web site soon. You are correct 
on the planned speaker and topic, which makes for a good reason to post the

"Solving Cyber-crimes with Linux Forensics"

SYNOPSIS:

    Forensics is this really cool thing you hear about on TV and in
the news, right?  You might be surprised.  In this talk, I will explore
some of the fundamentals of forensics, specifically cyber-forensics,
and then go on to look at how Linux is a powerful tool in the analyst's
toolkit.  From there I will cover how one might prepare for using Linux
for a forensic examination and analysis.  I will also be examining how
one might approach performing a forensic examination specifically against
a Linux system and how to protect sensitive collateral or incidental
information when faced with the prospect of a forensic examination.

SPEAKER BIO:

      Mike Warfield is the Senior Researcher and Fellow on the X-Force
of Internet Security Systems, Inc. (ISS), a leading global provider of
information protection solutions that secure IT infrastructure and
defend key online assets from attack and misuse.

      With computer security experience dating back to the early 1970s
and Unix experience dating back to the early 1980s, Mike is responsible for
doing research into security vulnerabilities and intrusion protection
techniques for ISS X-Force.

      Prior to joining ISS, Mike has held positions such as, a unix systems
engineer, unix consultant, security consultant and network administrator
on the Internet.  Mike is one of the resident Unix gurus at the Atlanta
UNIX Users Group and is one of the founding members of the Atlanta
Linux Enthusiasts.  He is also an active member of the Samba development
team and is a contributor to the Linux Kernel and numerous Open Source
Software projects.  Mike has published articles on both Samba and on
Security and is a respected cryptographer in the Open Source community.
