[ale] cd drives, or going nutz the Linux way!

On further investigation, you need to make sure you have the options 
USB Mass Storage support
HP CD-Writer 82xx support
and it wouldnt hurt to have
Freecom USB/ATAPI Bridge support
compile into the kernel or as modules.
If done as modules you will need to insmod usb-storage
