[ale] RH8 "Temporary failure in name resolution"

If I remember correctly the resolver is now handled by nsd or the nscd 
daemon.  So you configure it with /etc/nsswitch.conf and start the 
daemon with an init script in /etc/init.d or /etc/rc.d.
