Has anyone else read this article about Opteron vs Xeon I/O
performance? The difference is amazing! <maniacal grin>I wonder if I
can convince my friendly IBM vendor to 'loan' me one or two Opteron
boxes so I can benchmark them myself. Hmm..</mg>

> We end the year off with a bang asking how well can a 64-bit server running in 32-bit compatibility mode do on I/O? At openBench Labs, we put an Opteron and a Xeon server toe to toe and let the benchmarks fly. See why AMD's HyperTransport technology may be the coolest overpass to outdistance the old Northbridge/Southbridge interconnect model.

> And speaking of cool, this week, we talk to Samba co-founder John Terpstra about his hot new book (he's co-editor) The Official Samba-3 HOWTO and Reference Guide, and what his next book project is all about. For critical network services dealing with Windows, it never hurts to have an official how-to guide from Samba experts themselves.
