[ale] upgrading from LVM1 to LVM2

A friend of mine is curious about the ramifications of upgrading his system from the 2.4
kernel to 2.6. I understand that the version of LVM in 2.6 is LVM 2, while his system
is currently using LVM 1.
What is the upgrade procedure and is it UN-doable?  Are there any issues between
switching to the newer kernel?  Anything else he should be aware of?
