have you thought about using styrofoam molding to conceal some of the
wiring? it can be hallowed out (somewhat) and it is not unsightly. i
helped a friend wire his early 1900's house (hardwood floors, 12' ceilings,
etc.) in which _no_ unnecessary drilling was allowed.

imagine one telephone connection in the hall and a single electrical outlet
in each room. although the most interesting part was avoiding the
electrical wiring in the "attic", bare wire around porcelan spools.

as a side note, the electrical has been replaced recently to adhere to
current code.

I don't think there will be a problem with me using wireless (half mile to
nearest neighbor), but I haven't taken that step as yet. I keep asking
myself "What would Bob Toxen do?".
