It's painful, but I can dig up some of those memories...kinda like getting

Actually, the first event wasn't the one at the Inforum, it was held at Ga
Tech.  It was a small event where everyone just brought a machine that had
Linux on it and we tried to get the public to come...sorta a "Wanna see
Linux in action...stop by" kinda thing.  Given that a lot more people now
have heard of Linux, but may have no idea what it is, to me, this makes a
lot of sense as for how to get the word out.  Having something like ALS,
where you have all sorts of speakers, etc... is great for us who already
are into Linux, but may be intimidating for someone who is curious about
what Linux is.  I think of it like my neighboor - she has her own network,
running windows.  She's heard of Linux, thought it'd be neat to try, but
doesn't know anytning about it or has even seen it.

Anyway, for the first big ALS, we had several teams to work on different
things.  Speaker recruitment, vendor recruitment, and the one with all the
fun - Marc Torres (oh...that wasn't a position :)  Seriously, Marc as I
remember kinda headed it all up, ending up making the shady business deals
:) etc...  Myself and V worked on the Linux in action, which was kinda the
hand's on, see what it can do section (like above).   The main thing is
that for each major area, you need to have someone with the time, energy
and commitment to make sure it gets done.

I really don't remember too many details right now, but if anyone has
questions I may be able to remember more stuff, but I'm pretty tired right
now.

It all depends on what the goals are.  I would think making something to
get people more into Linux would be easier to do than to get speakers in
town, etc... (also cheaper)   Someone should probably try to get a bunch
of free CD's from RedHat, SCO or someone to hand out.
