No, I'm not saying they wouldn't exist, they'd just be a MUCH smaller
market.  Go look at what came along when.  As I said, every time M$
bought an idea and said "hey look what we have" all the devs, etc jumped
up and said "give us a week" and that spurred on the development alot
faster.  Look how slow everything was going in the X world before win 95
and then as the pattern of progression.
