Yes, you must tell your modules what card you have and what tuner. The
bt878 requires a card=10. Unfortunately, (or fortunately for me) SuSE
configured my card automagically, and there are no entries in
/etc/modules.conf as used to be required for my card.

Your best bet is to download the source for bttv driver and check out
the docks that come with it. They tell you how to set up the modules
entries. Just noticed I've got a version sitting on my drive. Here's
the example modules.conf goodies they provide:

# i2c
alias char-major-89 i2c-dev
options i2c-core i2c_debug=1
options i2c-algo-bit bit_test=1

# bttv
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 bttv
options bttv card=2 radio=1
options tuner debug=1

You need the following mods as well:

tuner 10536 1 (autoclean)
tvaudio 12900 0 (autoclean) (unused)
msp3400 17600 1 (autoclean)
bttv 77984 1
i2c-algo-bit 8392 1 [bttv]
videodev 6176 5 [bttv mod_quickcam]
i2c-core 15336 0 [tuner tvaudio msp3400 bttv
		i2c-algo-bit i2c-isa it87 i2c-proc]

Oops correct, cause I've got two cameras on this box, the quickcam is
/dev/video0...

See the references to tvaudio and i2c modules above. You can change
chanels with xawtv a couple of ways. left click on the xawtv window and
you'll get a channel window. Also you can use the cursor arrows to
change channels as well. You'll get another useful window when you
right click on xawtv.

Ouch, as long as you know you'll be getting a signal in, you should be good.

Think about it...
