Once you re-partition the failed/replacement disk then you can do a:
mdadm -a <raiddev> <replacement drive/partition>
for example:
mdadm -a /dev/md0 /dev/sdd1
Once it starts running "cat /proc/mdstat" to see that it's rebuilding.
