[ale] usb scanner

A couple of things:

You should have a module called scanner, but you don't.  As root, try 
'/sbin/insmod scanner'

Remove the first line of your hp.conf file, the one containing the 
reference to scsi

Make sure that /dev/scanner or /dev/usbscanner exist.
