I've just set up a new machine on my home network, and noticed that ssh
was reponding rather slowly. Ran tcpdump to see what was going on, and it
turns out that my box is trying to hit up all of my nameservers *before*
it examines the hosts file.
in /etc/nsswitch.conf, I have:
hosts: files dns
in hosts, I have:
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 margar1taville localhost.localdomain localhost
172.16.2.1 canal
192.168.129.201 zaurus
192.168.9.9 tidal
198.153.233.185 bell www-bcg.bcg.ada.com
/etc/resolv.conf is:
search bellsouth.net ata.am.acterna.net
nameserver 205.152.37.254
nameserver 205.152.0.5
nameserver 198.153.233.165
The delay is coming from when I try to hit tidal.
Anyone see something I'm missing?
Thanks!
John
