[ale] Tired FAQ, but I can't write Win/Samba share as joeuser

Sorry, I know this has been beaten to death, but I can't get it set right.

I have Win2K box sharing a directory: \\All\Abandonhope
I am samba-mounting the share from a RH-7.3 Linux box, with fstab entry:

//All/Abandonhope /styx  smbfs ...
  workgroup=OURS,username=abuser,password=ouchOuch 0 0

'abuser' exists in the Win2K world in 'OURS' and has the password
'ouchOuch'.

 '# mount /styx' works fine and shows correct contents, and
 '# touch /styx/pomegranite' works and creates the file.

As ordinary user I can read and modify files in '/styx', but can't create
them. I have tried 'chmod', 'suid', 'sudo', and creating 'abuser' in Linux
with the same password, and generally flailed around without success.

How can I make new files in a Win share, as an ordinary Linux user?
