I walk in the house noticing my father in law's truck is gone but he's
at home. "Mike, where's your truck?" "well, the better question is
where's Regene's car...." It turns out her car started over heating,
etc. We talk and I tell him to bring it over, carefully, and I'll take
a look. I'm thinking the thermostat is gone. He's heard of them and
knows rougly what they do but now how, how to test it, etc.
I pull the old thermostat and throw it in a pot of boiling water, yup
it's dead. He just looks at me. I send him to the autoparts place to
get a new one. While he's en route I sit at the computer and load up a
web page, http://www.howstuffworks.com and leave it there.
He gets back and I sit him down to read while I throw in the new
thermostat. I'm cranking the car when he comes out smiling
understanding much better now.
The car is happy, I'm happy that he now knows how to look up something
new or even something old and he's happy he paid $5 for parts instead of
$75 for parts and labor.
I'm in no-way related/associated with the web site, I just browse the
articles, etc and find it pretty useful sometimes. Hell, did you know
they tell you how KrispyKreems' are made? :>
