i echo the mrtg suggestion. additionally, bigbrother would be able to
handle constant monitoring of your cpu usage and memory utilization. in
terms of database surveillance, bb would handle the monitoring of database
processes such as concurrent request manager, web app services (i.e -
Oracle java apps), db listeners, etc. at the time of use, i found it easy
to customize the bbscript in order to check periodically for processes.
you really are not limited to its usage since you can incorporate your own
scripts. in terms of db requests, i don't know if you could add on a
stanza of shell script to logon to the db (in my case it was Oracle) and
spool out the number of db connections, exit out and then grep for values
in that spool file.
